Apart from winning an Academy Award for “Raging Bull” in 1980, he also bagged one as a supporting actor for the movie “The Godfather II.” Quick fact: The filming for “Raging Bull” was delayed mid production because Robert De Niro had to gain weight to depict Jake LaMotta in his later years.

Marlon Brando

Although Marlon Brando won the best actor award for his portrayal of the ruthless don of 1940s- Vito Corleone, he refused the award and sent a native American at the award function to represent him. The movie grossed around $135 million worldwide and was labelled one of the most iconic movies of all time.

Tom Hanks

Tom Hanks is known for his consistently great performances. He won back-to-back awards for the Best Actor for the movies “Forrest Gump” and “Philadelphia.” He has been a five-time nominee for the category of Best Actor and has bagged the award twice for the same.

Christoph Waltz

Christopher Waltz the best supporting actor award for this movie and won another in the same category for Django Unchained. Largely unknown to the audience, the Austrian actor portrayed the role of the cunning colonel Hans Landa who was notoriously called “The Jew Hunter” in the movie.

Denzel Washington

The eight-time nominee Denzel Washington won the Academy Award in 2002 for the best actor for his role as detective Alonzo Harris. He won his first Academy Award for the best supporting actor for the movie Glory in the year 1990.

Cate Blanchett

In the movie Cate Blanchett plays the role of Katharine Hepburn. The movie is about Howard Hughes (played by Leonardo DiCaprio) and his long-term relationship with Katharine Hepburn.

Daniel Day Lewis

Retired English actor Daniel Day Lewis is a three-time Academy award winner for the Best Actor and has been nominated for the same category for a total number of six films. Released in 2012, the movie directed by Steven Spielberg shows how Abraham Lincoln bought an end to the Civil War and slavery through the 13th amendment.

Kevin Spacey

American actor, singer, and producer won the Academy award for the best actor for the movie in which he played a role of an ordinary tele sales operative who gets disillusioned with his existence and seeks excitement in his life. Rami Malek

The movie is about Lee Chandler who has to leave his job in Boston and look after his orphaned nephew Patrick who lives in Manchester-by-the-sea: A fishing village. The movie was released in November 18, 2016 and was directed by Kenneth Lonergan.

Leonardo DiCaprio

The six-time nominee finally won the Best Actor award in 2017. The movie is about Hugh Glass played by Leonardo DiCaprio who finds his way back to civilization from the wilderness after being attacked by a bear.

Eddie Redmayne

He won the Best Actor award for his portrayal of the legendary late physicist Stephen Hawking. “The Theory of Everything” movie narrates the love life of Stephen Hawking and his relationship with Jane Wilde (Felicity Jones).

Matthew McConaughey

This Texas actor won the Best Actor award for his role as Ron Woodroof who has contracted AIDS and has just 30 days left to live. Woodroof along with Rayon (Jared Leto) set out to smuggle illegal medications to treat their condition and help other people suffering from the same disease.

Colin Firth

Colin Firth was nominated twice for the category of Best Actor. He won an Oscar for his role as England’s prince Albert.

Jamie Foxx

The two-time nominee won the Best Actor award for the movie “Ray.” It is a biopic of the legendary musician Ray Charles showcasing his struggling journey from childhood to drug addiction days and how he rose above them to redefine and inspire a generation.

Sean Penn

The two-time academy award winner and five-time nominee won best actor award for the movie. Mystic River is about Jimmy Marcus (Sean Penn) an ex-con who carries out his own investigation of the murder of his own daughter. The movie was released in October 2003 and was directed by the legendary actor Clint Eastwood.

Russell Crowe

Released in May 2000, Gladiator is the story from the Roman times where, a once powerful general (Russell Crowe) is forced to become a gladiator by the emperor’s son. Apart from Russell Crowe winning for Best actor the movie won a total of five Academy awards - Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Sound Mixing, Best Visual Effects, and Best Costume Design.

Nicolas Cage

Leaving Las Vegas is about the unconventional relationship between Ben Sanderson (Nicholas Cage), an alcoholic screenwriter and Sera (Elizabeth Shue) a prostitute and how they offer each other support. The movie is adapted from a novel by John O’ Brien.

Al Pacino
