Rubeus Hagrid, the kind and slightly dimwitted half-giant, has been one of the most loved characters in the Harry Potter movies. But many Potter fans aren’t aware of the fact that Robbie Coltrane, the man who brought our beloved Hagrid to life, actually had a number of successful films under his sleeve before getting cast in the franchise. Coltrane was one of the biggest actors and comedians of his time. He has acted in two James Bond movies GoldenEye and The World Is Not Enough. He was also a voice actor in Pixar’s film Brave. Coltrane has received credit for more than 75 movies and television shows. He starred in the UK’s hit television show National Treasure. He has even written a few scripts and directed movies during his career. Fun fact: Robbie Coltrane’s real name is Robbie McMillan. However, he chose the name “Coltrane” as a tribute to American saxophonist John Coltrane.
