October is going to be an eventful month for the streaming service, as it will be welcoming many smashing new TV series and movies. Check them out here! As we get closer to October, Netflix has slowly started to roll out the shows, movies, and documentaries it set aside for the month. While Netflix Originals are obviously on everyone’s radar, there’s a lot more that the streaming service has to offer. Some of them have been in the works for years and others are regarded as classics. So, let’s stay in and watch some of the best TV shows and movies on Netflix this October.

La Révolution - Season 1 (October 16)

If you liked Vikings, this Netflix drama series is something you cannot miss! The show, set in 1787, is a reimagination of the French Revolution that killed many thousands of people. The French show touches upon themes of violence, brutality, and politics, all while telling history. Talented actors Julien Sarazin, Amir El Kacem, and Lionel Erdogan star in the lead roles.

Unsolved Mysteries - Volume 2 (October 18

Created by Terry Dunn Meurer and John Cosgrove, and the people behind Stranger Things, Unsolved Mysteries is Netflix’s attempt to revive the iconic docu-series that ran for over a decade. The streaming service released the first six episodes of the first season in the first half of 2020. The response was quite good, prompting the quick release of the next set of episodes.

Cadaver (October 22)

Cadaver is the first Norwegian Netflix Original to be released. It is a horror mystery centered around a family that attends a charitable event after a nuclear disaster. The survivors from the calamity are all invited to that gathering, held in a hotel owned by director Mathias (Thorbjørn Harr). Soon enough, things take an ugly turn as people suddenly start disappearing.

The Queen’s Gambit (October 23)

The Queen’s Gambit, starring Anya Taylor-Joy, is based on a book by Walter Tevis. The drama series revolves around Beth Harmon, who walks the thin line between greatness and failure. Beth, who had been orphaned at a young age, has a real appetite for chess and looks on her way to achieving great success. However, the pressure’s real and could prove to be an obstacle.

Mank (TBD)

It’s been more than six years since David Fincher gave us Gone Girl. The movie was truly magnificent and a testament to Fincher’s storytelling ability. Now, the 58-year-old is set to woo us again with Mank, a biographical drama that explains how screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz went about compiling his famed work Citizen Kane. Gary Oldman plays the lead role.

Carmen Sandiego - Season 3 (October 1)

The adventures of Carmen Sandiego struck a chord with fans, and it is likely to hit new heights in the upcoming season. The new installment will bring even more drama, as Carmen is set to discover a host of ugly secrets that could reshape a lot of her relationships. Gina Rodriguez and Finn Wolfhard will continue to lend their voice for the coming season.

Evil - Season 1 (October 1)

The CBS series features three professionals from different backgrounds as they team up to investigate supernatural occurrences. Katja Herbers, Mike Colter, and Aasif Mandvi star in the lead roles and give the same vibe as Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, and Hannah Gross from Netflix’s famed psychological thriller Mindhunter. Evil has 13 episodes in the first season and has been renewed for further installments.

The Netflix series is based on Raphael Montes and Ilana Casoy’s Portuguese novel named Bom Dia, Veronica’ and is touted as one of the most anticipated shows of the year. Veronica Torre (Tainá Müller), a secretary to the police, witnesses and soon starts investigating two monumental crimes. Her unwavering search could put her family at risk. But will that stop her?

Hunt for Wilderpeople (October 1)

Ricky (Julian Dennison), a troublesome orphaned boy from the city, is fostered by Bella (Rima Te Wiata) and Hector (Sam Neill). After Bella’s death, Child Services decide to take Ricky to another foster home. Hector, however, despite their complicated relationship, tries to protect his foster son and takes him away from the authorities. What follows is a hilarious manhunt. Errr… child hunt.

We Have Always Lived in the Castle (October 1)

We Have Always Lived in the Castle is a mystery-thriller adapted from Shirley Jackson’s novel, The Haunting of Hill House. The story revolves around a family who lives in isolation after a terrible tragedy that occurred six years ago. Cousin Charles Blackwood (Sebastian Stan) pays the family a visit, hoping to rob them of their fortune. However, he ends up discovering something entirely disturbing.

Emily in Paris - Season 1 (October 2)

Dareen Star, the man behind Sex and the City, created Emily in Paris. This is one show you will want to binge-watch all day and night! The series stars Lily Collins as a young woman who moves to Paris after landing her dream job. However, it is not all plain sailing, as she finds it difficult to adjust to the Parisian culture.

Colombiana (October 4)

Colombiana chronicles the journey of a young woman named Cataleya (Zoe Saldana), who witnesses her parents die. She grows up to be an assassin of the highest quality. Filled with vengeance, Cataleya has only one goal: to kill the man responsible for her parents’ assassination. The movie is directed by Olivier Megaton and did quite well at the box office.

Hubie Dubois (Adam Sandler), a not-so-charming man, despite getting frequently mocked by just about anyone, strives to ensure that the residents of his beloved hometown, Salem, celebrate Halloween safely. The effort earns him nothing until a mysterious man enters the neighborhood and threatens everyone’s safety. Hubie tries everything he can to stop him. The movie also stars Julie Bowen and Peyton List.

Deaf U - Season 1 (October 9)

The Netflix documentary series hits hard and is an emotional rollercoaster, offering a fresh perspective on the life of a special class of students. The documentary looks at Gallaudet University, a famous university in Washington, D.C., built for young adults with hearing disabilities. Their day-to-day activities and struggles form the theme of the show. The show is produced by Nyle DiMarco.

A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting (October 14)

This classic book has been a favorite of many, and now Netflix has stepped in to help fans enjoy this masterpiece on screen. The story revolves around a group of babysitters who tries to protect innocent babies from vicious monsters.

While it isn’t the greatest Joker or Batman movie by a country mile, Batman: The Killing Joke is a fun watch that moves away from the rather serious theme of the comic.
